Ambiente – The Show. From 13 to 17 February 2015, the world’s leading consumer goods event will once again occupy the whole of Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre, the second largest exhibition ground worldwide. With over 4,700 exhibitors being expected, the entire eastern part of the Exhibition Centre is reserved for the Dining section while the Giving and Living sections share the western part. With these three sections, Ambiente depicts the complete spectrum of consumer goods for the table, kitchen, and household, as well as giving, the home and furnishing. “Ambiente is the unrivalled business platform for the global consumer goods industry. Products from almost 90 countries on an area the size of more than 46 football fields. It is the show not to be missed”, says Nicolette Naumann, Vice President Ambiente/Tendence. But Ambiente is not only the sector’s new-products summit, it is also the place to go for a variety of events, trend presentations, awards ceremonies and promotional programmes for young designers.
At the beginning of the 2014 business year, 4,749 exhibitors from 89 countries1 presented their latest products and innovations for five days on 328,500 square metres of exhibition space (gross). Greece was represented by 36 companies. 144,000 trade buyers from 161 countries (2013: 140,000 from 143 countries) travelled to Frankfurt for Ambiente, 1.356 from Greece, which is an increase of 23 percent compared to 2013 and puts Greece in 17th place in the Ambiente vis- itor ranking. More than four months ahead of Ambiente, 25 companies from Greece have already registered for 2015, including Nikotex Carpets Nikolaidis, Procos, Yalco S. D. Constantinou & Sons (Ionia/Fest) and Yioula Glassworks.
Next year, the United States will be the Partner Country of the world’s leading consumer-goods fair in Frankfurt. The Partner Coun- try globe was handed over from Japan to the United States at Ambi- ente 2014. During the ceremony, Kevin C. Milas, Consul General of the United States of America said, “Ambiente is the world’s leading event for design trends in the consumer-goods sector. It is an out- standing platform for U.S. home-products companies that want to strengthen their position in international markets. We are excited about our upcoming cooperation as Partner Country with Messe Frankfurt for 2015, and we look forward to showcasing cutting-edge American interiors, housewares and outdoor design products.” After Denmark, France and Japan, the United States is the fourth Ambi- ente Partner Country. A comprehensive programme is planned and will include a special presentation, theme day, activities and events. Scott Henderson from the New York-based design studio Scott Hen- derson Inc. will be the designer of the special presentation for next year’s presentation.
With the launch of the Contract Business programme at Ambiente in 2012, the fair has rapidly become a hotspot for the contract sector. Hospitality professionals and decision makers, such as project devel- opers, professional buyers, furnishing specialists, interior architects and designers, restaurateurs and hoteliers can find the right busi- ness contacts, expertise and tailor-made solutions for the contract business and Horeca (Hotel, Restaurant, Catering) segments. “Equipping large projects like exclusive hotels and restaurants, cruise liners or the business-class and first class of airlines demands high standards in the aesthetics and quality of the products used. In- terior design is a key distinguishing feature and competitive factor in the hospitality trade. Ambiente offers a portfolio of top suppliers with great expertise and experience in this business segment”, says Ni- colette Naumann.
At Ambiente 2014, 270 designated exhibitors from 30 countries (2013: 250 from 30 countries), who have a proven track record as suppliers in the contract sector exhibited at the show. Among them, in the Dining segment, were market leaders and top companies such as Dibbern, Nambé, Pillivuyt, Schönwald, a company from the lead- ing BHS Group, WMF or Zwiesel Kristallglas. In the Living segment, suppliers such as Fink, Exotica Cor Mulder or Lambert offered new products and expertise in equipping high-grade commercial projects. During the fair, a Contract Guide lists all the exhibitors from the con- tract business segment, including contact details. Thanks to a digital matchmaking-platform with access limitation and a supplier verifica- tion system, company information can be researched in advance and appointments arranged for personal contact at the fair.
Ambiente is also a major player in the volume business sector. As the most significant Sourcing platform outside China, it offers a wide spectrum of merchandise in the Passage product area. In six exhibi- tion halls, visitors find over 1,300 selected, export-oriented suppliers from China, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan, Thailand and many other countries. They present a wide range of products from industrially- made goods to hand-crafted articles in large quantities and solutions in the customising field.
The most important trends for the table, kitchen, home and giving segments will be on show at Ambiente 2015. The four trend worlds – are the work of the renowned trend bureau stilbüro bora.herke.palmisano. The trend show will be supplemented by daily guided tours and lectures. For many young designers, the Talents and Next promotional pro- grammes represent important steps on the careers ladder. At Ambi- ente, up-and-coming young designers from the product, furniture and jewellery design segments can present their ideas, designs and pro- totypes to an international audience of trade visitors and make con- tact with potential manufacturers. The Solutions special show focuses on clever ideas and shows new products from Ambiente exhibitors, which offer creative solutions for the tableware, kitchen and household segments. As part of the show, designer and curator Sebastian Bergne spotlights special fea- tures of each of the products selected in a brief film clip.
As in previous years, Ambiente 2015 will be the setting for the presentation of numerous renowned awards. Consumer goods skil- fully combining aesthetic qualities with practical benefits are hon- oured with the Design Plus Award and the winning products dis- played during the fair. The German Design Award is presented on the first day of the fair and visitors will also find the winning products in an impressive exhibition. The ‘Plagiarius’ negative award shaming product piracy and the Kitchen Innovation will also be given during Ambiente.
